How much does it cost to paint a house?
Straight numbers from real jobs — not averages scraped off the internet. Answer a few questions and see your range in about two minutes.
No email. No phone number. No sales call.
Three steps, no strings
1 Describe the space
Which rooms, which surfaces, how tall the ceilings, what shape the walls are in. Every one of those moves the price, which is why a single average number is useless.
2 See your range
You get a low and a high, broken down room by room, plus an honest statement of how much we actually know about pricing in your area.
3 Decide what's next
Walk away with the number, or — if you've already been quoted — send us the quote and we'll tell you whether it's high, low, or about right.
Built from real jobs, not published averages
Most painting cost pages are written by people who have never quoted a job. This model was built by a working painting contractor and calibrated against invoices from completed work. Where we don't have data for your area, we say so instead of guessing.
Good to know
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, and you don't have to give up an email or phone number to see it. You get your range at the end of the calculator whether or not you tell us anything about yourself.
Where do your numbers come from?
The model is built from real completed painting jobs — actual invoices, not published averages. Homeowners also send us quotes they have received, which is how the data keeps growing. The methodology page explains it in full.
How accurate is the range for my area?
It depends where you are, and we tell you which case you're in. Where we have verified local job data, the range reflects real local pricing. Everywhere else you get a national range, clearly labeled as a starting point rather than a local price.
What does the estimate include?
Standard prep — patching small holes, sanding, priming where needed — plus quality paint and clean application of whichever surfaces you select: walls, ceilings, trim, or any combination.
Are you trying to sell me painting?
Only if you happen to live near Madison, Wisconsin, where the contractor behind this site's data actually works. Everywhere else there's nothing to sell you — you can send us a quote you've been given and we'll tell you how it compares.
